Telling stories to make the world less shit
We are a Hull-based theatre company with a simple mission statement: To create playful and provocative new work to make the world a little less shit.
We believe that you don't have to be 'serious' to say something 'serious' this is something that has stuck with us from the beginning, our work is both playful and provocative. We believe people should be challenged but also entertained, so our productions find the most playful, ridiculous and engaging methods to give people a good night out and start a conversation about some of the most uncomfortable issues affecting people today. Our work is for people who are more comfortable at the cinema, a stand-up gig or the pub than at the theatre, this has meant that along the way we have created work in theatres, in pubs, and once in a club (we were in charge of a nightclub once - it was ace).
Our work is inspired by pop culture, especially cinema, television, comic books, standup comedy, and video games (gaming culture in general). The company creates work as a continually changing ensemble, working with new writers, musicians, technicians and artists to create bold and innovative new work.
About the Company
We formed in 2013 on the top floor of our local pub. Since then we have become a Supported Company of Hull Truck Theatre and an Emerging Company 2016-2017 of the New Diorama Theatre in London. We have received support and built relationships with institutes in Hull, such as Hull City Council, Hull UK City of Culture 2017, Hull Trains, and even Hull’s beloved American Chip Spice company. We are pledged to finding alternative ways to engage new audiences in the city by bringing some of the best new writers and artists from across the UK to Hull.
The company is run by the core team members, but we have a series of regular collaborators and associates that work with us on a project-by-project basis.
