Out Loud is a new scratch night for writers in Hull to see and hear their scripts performed by professional actors in front of a friendly audience.
The night is a collaboration between Middle Child and Silent Uproar, kindly funded by Hull playwright Richard Bean.
We have space for four 15 minute performances at our first event on Friday 24th January, at Middle Child’s creative hub, Darley’s.
Anything goes form and content-wise, but we are particularly interested in seeing stories about Hull and the north.
Our audience will be made of Middle Child and Silent Uproar company members and associate artists, as well as other Hull theatre makers, invited through our artist development mailing list, making it a supportive environment in which to share early stage writing.
What you get
Middle Child and Silent Uproar will read the scripts with writer’s names removed, then choose four and cast local, paid actors to perform them on the night.
Middle Child artistic director, Paul Smith, and Silent Uproar artistic director, Alex Mitchell, plus two more guest directors will work with actors during a day of rehearsals.
That means as a chosen writer you can simply turn up to the sharing and see your work brought to life with a ‘fresh’ set of eyes and ears. Writers will also receive a fee of £50.
There will also be the option of feedback from Alex Mitchell and Paul Smith, as well as Middle Child associate artist, Tom Wells.
How to apply
Out Loud is open to applications from anyone aged 18 and above who is living in Hull and the surrounding area.
To apply please send a sample of your script - no more than 10 pages - to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject Out Loud Application, before 10am on Monday 25th November.
Please note that we can only accept scripts that can be performed by no more than four actors.
Scripts will be passed to Alex Mitchell and Paul Smith, with names removed to be read anonymously. All applicants will be informed whether they have been successful or not by Friday 20th December.
