SILENT UPROAR IN 2026, WHAT’S NEXt?

Since our Artistic Director Alex wrote their last blog at the end of 2025, we acknowledge that the political and cultural climate hasn’t eased. The air is still heavy, and people are still feeling pushed aside, erased, and unsafe. It is hard to pick up our phones and face what is happening in the world. But we hope that our follow up here will give a little light in a strange and dark time.
In the past month, we have continued our conversations both as a company and with the people who have reached out to us. Meetings have happened, and ideas are becoming more tangible. We mean it when we say that Silent Uproar has shifted, and we hope to be dared to do the best job possible.
Part of that is the Come Out! group, which we are pleased to informally announce, exists in its first stages. Some members of the group have met with the Silent Uproar team, and we discussed key topics, including safe collaboration, accountability, care, and representation. The foundations are set, and now we move (enthusiastically) forward. We will eventually announce and spotlight this, but a settling period to get to know each other is extremely valuable. We will say that the group we have on board is incredible and we are so excited to have them on the journey with us.
While we were open to applications and having discussions with candidates for Come Out! we had feedback which we wanted to share:
Many people expressed the need for spaces and groups like this to exist
A few candidates expressed that they felt seen by our blog and the direct acknowledgement of the more insidious political climate and mood shift towards queer communities and individuals
People overall expressed that they felt safer knowing that locally there were teams making these spaces
How does this connect to our work?
Firstly, we have to say that these conversations and actions are not separate from the shows and work we make. As a team we are actively thinking about ensuring the spaces where our work is presented is welcoming for queer and allied communities, and an active part of creating that space is speaking directly to the communities we want to serve. Engagement in work isn’t just about audiences watching a show, it’s about place and space making, and who feels they can enter them. We want to make sure that door firmly stays open to those who need (and want!) it.
To the future, for Silent Uproar and our work, 2026 is taking shape in a big way. We have at least four projects underway (we are purposely saying ‘at least’ here because there are further conversations we are excited about). The work we are discussing is focused on variety and is a mix of old favourites and new fabulous shows. And the through line of all of this is we have a year (and more) ahead of us which is about making genuinely good nights out for people who need them.
And to wrap this up, with a shameless plug, our first announcement is that our sell-out hit, The Night of the Werewolves LIVE, is coming back in 2026 (Lycan, the host character, is very happy).
Tickets are available for both an 18+ show and a family-friendly show in Spring/Summer. This show has been loved by all audiences as a playful, welcoming romp and a good time, so don’t miss it whether or not you’ve taken part before.
